Impact Sierra Leone 1st Annual Holiday Empowerment Celebration

Today, we celebrate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. King embodied what it meant to be selfless and committed to making the world a better place.  Impact Sierra Leone (ISL) practices these same values by working with rural communities in Sierra Leone to help them achieve sustainable development and self-sufficiency.

On January 2, 2022, Impact Sierra Leone (ISL) held its first annual Holiday Empowerment Celebration for the children and families of Foindu Village, a rural community in Sierra Leone. The Empowerment Celebration is an extension of our Seeds of Life Campaign. The purpose of the celebration was to acknowledge the efforts of the Foindu community to advance better nutrition and education through sustainable agriculture.

On Christmas Day, 2021, Impact Sierra Leone’s executive director, Dr. Adama Kalohoh traveled to Foindu Village from the United States. When she arrived in Foindu Village on January 2nd, the long-awaited empowerment celebration was set to begin.

Working with Impact Sierra Leone staff already on the ground, over 400 people were not only able to enjoy great food and music, but they also enjoyed special presentations from students, community members, and ISL staff.  Some of the presentations included motivational poems, speeches, and live musical performances.  To the children’s surprise, they had the opportunity to participate in a pinata game, an activity most of them have never heard of.

Most importantly, 250 children attending Ansarul Primary School in Foindu Village were given school and other essential supplies so they could start the new year equipped and ready to learn. The Foindu community also received 2 barrels of much-needed clothing.

We could not have done this without you! Although we were not able to give each child a backpack as we initially planned, we were able to provide each of the students with school supplies and clothing. We are still planning to purchase book bags, and we hope that they can have them as soon as possible. So, if you missed the opportunity to help, here’s your chance!
