The Founders

Impact Sierra Leone was established in 2019 by Dr. Adama Kalokoh and Yeabu Conteh, two daughters of Sierra Leone. Their commitment to fostering economic and socio-emotional development in their homeland was inspired by their late father, a dedicated patriot of Sierra Leone.

Though born in the US, Adama and Yeabu were deeply influenced by their father's devotion to his country. Motivated by his legacy, they launched the Seeds of Life Program following his passing. This initiative aims to tackle numerous infrastructural challenges, essential for unlocking the potential of a nation on the path to restoration.

About the Village of Foindu

Foindu is a village located in the Tonkilili District of Sierra Leone’s Northern Province. The Northern Province is the famous center of the diamond trade in Sierra Leone, having been discovered in the commercial sense in the early 1900s.

The village was largely destroyed during the war, with nearly every home having been burned down during the conflict. As a result, it is one of the areas recovering the slowest from the 11 year civil war (1991-2002).

Fifty percent of the population of 500 in Foindu is under the age 18. However, this number may not be an accurate reflection of the true population. Due to high infant mortality rates, children under the age of 5 are not usually counted in census efforts.
