Nurturing the Earth, Planting Seeds of Hope: Celebrating Earth Day at Impact Sierra Leone
By: Dr Adama Kalokoh, CEO of Impact Sierra Leone
Happy Earth Day from Impact Sierra Leone
Today, as the world comes together to celebrate Earth Day, I am filled with gratitude for the quiet yet powerful work happening in the heart of Sierra Leone.
At Impact Sierra Leone, we know that caring for people and caring for the planet are deeply connected. Wellness doesn’t start in hospitals — it begins with the land that feeds us, the trees that shade us, and the soil that roots our communities in hope.
When we launched our Seeds of Life program, we weren’t just thinking about providing food; we were envisioning sustainable empowerment and cultivating the earth while nurturing the spirit of every man, woman, and child we serve.
A Story of Hope Taking Root
I remember standing at the edge of a farm in Foindu Village, Northern Sierra Leone during one of our first Seeds of Life workshops.
The sun was strong, the soil dry, and yet, the energy in the air was full of promise.
Farmers, some of whom had never received formal training, gathered around our team as we shared not just seeds, but new techniques: composting to enrich the soil, crop rotation to protect the land, and organic farming methods to preserve the environment.
One elder, Musa, told me,
“Before this, we planted only what we knew. Now, we plant what the earth needs and she blesses us in return.”
That, for me, captures the spirit of Earth Day — and the essence of the seeds of hope we are planting.

Partnerships That Multiply the Harvest
None of this would be possible without the amazing partnerships we have cultivated with local farms, agricultural cooperatives, and international supporters who believe in sustainable change.
These partnerships have allowed us to introduce drought-resistant crops, establish community gardens, and create spaces where children learn that farming is not just survival, it’s stewardship.
Impact in Action: Seeds of Life Highlights
Trained over 50 farmers on sustainable agriculture practices in Foindu Village.
Planted over 3,000 seedlings of nutrient-rich crops like okra, cucumbers, cassava, and maize.
Launched eco-friendly farming workshops in partnership with local agricultural experts.
Empowered women farmers with seeds, tools, and support to start their own farming cooperatives.

A Call to Action
Today, and every day, Earth Day reminds us that the seeds we plant now will determine the harvest of generations to come.
At Impact Sierra Leone, we are committed to continuing this work, nourishing the land, strengthening communities, and spreading hope.
I invite you to be a part of this growing movement. Whether through partnerships, support, or simply sharing our story, your involvement helps us create a world where both people and the planet can thrive.
Happy Earth Day!
Together, let’s keep planting seeds — for a greener, healthier, and more hopeful tomorrow.
