Impact Sierra Leone Brings Hope to Peace Village Orphanage in Sierra Leone!

Covid-19 has threatened food security for many countries around the world. Impact Sierra Leone (ISL) continued its support to Peace Village Orphanage by addressing their food crisis. On September 4, 2020, ISL purchased immediate food items and presented Peace Village Orphanage in Sierra Leone with two bags of rice, cooking oil, chicken, and other essential food items. They expressed their gratitude gleefully because there are many days when they do not get enough to eat or go to bed hungry.

To address the scarcity of healthy food at the orphanage, ISL is working with our partner and friend, Jillian Shaw of FARMS USA who has agreed to make a monthly contribution to ISL.  The funds will be used strictly to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables every month. In September, the orphanage received an abundance of fruit to include pawpaw, cassava, mangoes, watermelon, bananas, cucumbers, leafy vegetables and more. The donation of fresh produce will ensure the kids/staff are eating a balanced diet and definitely improve the public health crisis facing the rural areas.

For young people in Sierra Leone, October marks the beginning of the school year.  Along with other forms of support, making sure that they have access to nutritional food and proper clothing is vital to their success and survival.  ISL believes that a quality education begins with having the essential tools and supplies. ISL donated funds to purchase school uniforms after the orphanage expressed they had no means to prepare the children. ISL donated funds to purchase school uniforms. With our support, every child was measured by a tailor and will have a new uniform for the first day of school. Every child will have a new uniform as they return to school in October. The children and staff were overjoyed to receive the food items and uniforms.

About Peace Village
Peace Village Orphanage opened its doors in 2000 following the end of Sierra Leone’s decade-long civil war.  During this time, many children lost their parents, were kidnapped, abused, and tortured.  Peace Village, in its first year housed up to 200 boys and girls and was primarily supported by individuals from Sierra Leone and several relief organizations. Over the years, support has dwindled for various reasons. Currently, they have a phenomenal staff, and despite the circumstances, they are doing what they can for the children. The orphanage now cares for 48 children abandoned due to unfortunate circumstances. Although the orphanage serves fewer children, the need for assistance remains great.

Moving forward ISL has committed to helping this orphanage and we have now included them in our mission. Our primary focus will be to ensure they have food each month. ISL presented an MOU to the Founder/Director of Peace Village Orphanage to declare our intentions. Our hope is that when more resources are available, we can eventually help to address other issues facing the facility – we are taking it one step at a time. ISL is committed to doing our part to improve the lives of people, especially children in Sierra Leone.  It is rewarding to see less children going hungry.  ISL stands proud to bring positive change in some of the most vulnerable areas of Sierra Leone- we look forward to greater heights
