Impact Sierra Leone supports Save The Young Girls Foundation Orphanage Back To School Campaign!
In collaboration with the Board of Directors for Save The Young Girls Foundation Orphanage (STYGFO), Impact Sierra Leone joined forces to kick off a Back To School Education Empowerment Campaign. Our goal was to empower the young girls from the orphanage by fully preparing them for their first day of school in September. Realizing that due to poverty, buying school supplies is a huge challenge for many in Sierra Leone, ISL teamed up with the STYGFO board to create an Amazon wish list with selected items. This proved to be an easy way for donors to make the purchases the girls really needed. The campaign was launched on June 29th and ended July 18th. On Saturday, July 18th, two barrels filled with various school supplies, clothes and shoes were shipped to STYGFO in Sierra Leone! Two members of STYGFO joined me to pack two barrels in less than an hour. The donation drive was a huge success because of so many supporters around the globe. As a result, 28 young girls from the STYGFO will soon receive a new book bag filled with essential supplies such as composition notebook, pencil pouch, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, rulers, pens, pencils, erasers, subject notebooks, protractors, glue sticks, girls’ underwear, socks, and more! We also received other scholastic materials such as Webster Dictionaries, a world atlas, and reading flashcards. To offset some of the barrel costs, ISL launched a tshirt campaign which helped purchase two barrels and also some supplies from the Amazon Wishlist.In addition to school supplies, the barrel included items to help combat Covid-19 and promote public health to include: bulk hand sanitizers, Ivory bath soap, custom made facemasks, adult and children’s multivitamins and hand gloves. Clothes and shoes donated by ISL supporters were included to benefit the girls and staff. The barrel of supplies should reach the orphanage late August and we will be excited to see the beautiful faces of the girls at the orphanage once received. Thanks goes out to all our donors that made this Back To School Campaign a huge success. We hope to have many more campaigns to empower our people in Sierra Leone.
